"I swear to you, Ravi, once you return, we'll build a new life together. We'll leave the darkness behind and walk into the light," Kavita's voice trembled as she held the small, intricately carved wooden box in her hands. Ravi's eyes never left the horizon, his gaze piercing the distance, his expression a mask of determination. "I have to do this, Kav. I owe it to my family, to our clan. I'll be back before the monsoon rains." "It's not just about your family or our clan," Kavita said, her voice rising in urgency. "It's about the world beyond. About what we can build together, without the weight of our ancestors' expectations." A hint of desperation crept into her voice. Ravi's hands clenched into fists, his jaw set in a firm line. "I know, Kavi. But sometimes, one has to do the right thing, even when it feels wrong." In the distance, the sound of rustling leaves and snapping twigs echoed through the forest, growing louder. A figure emerged from the underbrush, her features obscured by a veil of shadows. "What is it, Ajeet?" Ravi asked, his voice low and even. "Not what, Ravi. Who," Ajeet replied, her voice dripping with a subtle venom. "The ones you've been tracking. They're not far from here. And they're not alone." Ravi's gaze flicked to Kavita, a warning in his eyes. "Take Kavi and go back to the clan. I'll handle this." Kavita's face paled, a protest forming on her lips. But before she could speak, a loud shout echoed through the forest, followed by the sound of steel clashing against steel. The world around Ravi seemed to shatter, leaving only the sound of Ajeet's whispered words: "May the wheel turn, Ravi. May your enemies become your greatest teachers." Everything went dark. When Ravi's vision returned, he was lying on the cold, damp earth, his head throbbing in agony. The world around him was still, the only sound the distant howling of wolves. He struggled to sit up, but a searing pain in his chest made him falter. As he looked down, his heart froze in his chest. His eyes met the gaze of Kavita, her face twisted in anguish, a single arrow lodged in her chest. Her eyes locked onto his, a faint smile on her lips. And then, all went black.
